Michael Urig, MD

Where did you attend medical school? University of Colorado School of Medicine. Residency in OB/GYN at Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center. (Dr. Urig is the Associate Residency Director and Associate Chair of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center.)

How long have you been in Arizona? 26 years

How long have you been with the practice? I have been in the Maricopa OB/GYN branch 22 years and with AOA since its inception on 10/1/2007.

What do you enjoy the most about your field of medicine? The long-term relationships with patients. The chance to make a difference in patients’ lives on a physical, emotional, and spiritual level. The day-to-day challenges of medical practice and teaching resident physicians in training keep me motivated to strive for the best for my patients and my colleagues.

Can you tell us a little about your family? I am married and have two sons. Brett is married and is in law school at the University of Virginia. Wade is a junior at Wheaton College outside of Chicago. He is engaged to be married in May.

Do you own any pets? We have a golden retriever, named Bixby.

Do you have any hobbies? I enjoy getting away to Flagstaff with my family, mountain biking and snowboarding. I really like to play full court basketball. I love spending as much time as possible with my wonderful bride of 26 years, Julie. I also love to read books on theology.

Awards: I have been one of the "Top Docs" in Phoenix Magazine from 2001-2011 and am President of the Board of Directors of Arizona OB/GYN Affiliates.

What is your favorite movie? The Bourne Conspiracy (and sequels).

What is your favorite book? King’s Cross by Tim Keller

What is your favorite food? Marinated Flank Steak on the grill.
