How long have you been with the practice?

1 ½ years

Where did you attend medical school?

Midwestern University, Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine, Glendale

Can you tell us a little about yourself?

I was born and raised in Portland, Oregon. My family (parents and younger sister) moved to Scottsdale 21 years ago. I have since grown up and spent all of my educational and professional life in Arizona. I met my now wife in residency at Banner Good Samaritan during my first year of residency in 2007, and we have been married for 10 months. We are expecting our first child, a little girl, in February!

Do you own any pets?

We are the proud owners of two little monsters, Moby and Bosco. They are both Boxers, from Boxer Luv Dog Rescue. Moby has been with us for 14 months, and Bosco just recently joined the family - hence, no pictures (yet) of him.

Do you play any instruments?

I grew up taking piano lessons for 10 years. I also picked up guitar while in college.

What languages do you speak?

I speak decent English, and can handle a modest conversation in Spanish. Although I am Chinese, I can do little more than order items at Dim Sum - the ability for which I am very grateful! My favorite Dim Sum restaurants in Phoenix are Great Wall in west Phoenix and Mekong Restaurant in Mesa/Chandler. Dim Sum is awesome!

Do you have any hobbies?

I love soccer. Always have, always will. I have played regularly since 5 years old, and after our little girl is born, I will teach her to dribble a ball before she eats solid foods. I am also an Assistant Coach for the Varsity Soccer team at Estrella Foothills High School in Goodyear. My wife and I also like to hike, cycle, and we especially enjoy yoga. Being fit is a constant healthy goal of ours, and it helps allow us to enjoy fun foods.

What is your favorite book?

Brave New World - Aldous Huxley

What is your favorite food?

Not a fair question. Too many in the top spot.

What do you do for fun?

Aside from hobbies as listed above, I enjoy cooking - or, at least, attempting to cook. My wife and I are kitchen caterpillars, hoping our talents will eventually blossom! I am also trying to beef up my Chinese language skills, which is taking a very long time.

What do you enjoy the most about your field of medicine?

For me, the most important and fulfilling aspect of medicine is not surgery, or diagnosing disease, or even delivering babies. It is forming a relationship with my patients, one that is strong enough to allow me into their life - one that they can depend on for help with any issue they come across. In the end, the trust between my patients and me is very satisfying, and I try to do my best to honor that trust.

What is your favorite quote or saying?

“Carpe Diem” - Seize the day!
