AOA Patient Profile - Mitzi English

AOA Patient Profile: Mitzi EnglishWho is your AOA doctor? How long have you been with the practice?
Dr. Valerie Sorkin-Wells, is my doctor and I have been a patient of Arizona Wellness Center for Women approximately 9 months.

What do you like about your AOA doctor? Why do you use this practice?
Dr. Sorkin-Wells makes me feel comfortable with gynecologist visits. I hadn’t gone for a “gyno” exam for many years because I felt so uneasy. Women after childbearing years have different needs and concerns. Dr. Sorkin-Wells was so easy to talk to and she addressed my concerns and needs as an individual. Decisions on my care were based on what fit me best. My primary care physician recommended Dr. Sorkin-Wells. He said his wife and daughter went to her. I’m thankful for his referral.

Can you tell us a little about your family? Are you married? Do you have children?
My husband, Rick and I just celebrated our 28th Wedding Anniversary. Rick is an insurance agent and owns his own agency. I have two beautiful daughters, Kera, 23 and Chelsi 18. Kera is a leasing agent for Equity Residential and Chelsi is graduating from Shadow Mountain High School this year.

Do you own any pets? If so, what kind and what are their names?
I have a big, beautiful black cat. His name is Baloo. My daughter named him after the Jungle Book character Baloo, because when he was a kitten he used to stand on his hind legs and bat his front paws. It looked like he was boxing! He will still do it when he misses us after we have been away. When I returned home from the hospital after my recent hysterectomy, he was excited to see me and stood up and “boxed!”

Do you have any hobbies? Please give us a few details about what you like about your hobby/hobbies.
I don’t know if you can call it a hobby, but I love to remodel and flip homes. I find it very rewarding to take an older home in need of repair, redesign the layout, remodel the kitchen and baths and make it desirable again. I do most of the work myself, from demo to painting and tile.

What is your favorite movie?
“Aliens “– It’s scary, but it’s funny too!!

What is your favorite book?
I love books about women who traveled out west in the early 1900’s. Two great books are Vanished Arizona, by Martha Summerhayes and These Is My Words: The diary of Sarah Agnes Prine, 1881-1901 Arizona Territories, by Nancy E. Turner

What is your favorite quote or motto?
